The Rouge
The Rouge, Toronto's largest neighbourhood by surface area, is also one of its most natural and undeveloped. So named because of the Rouge River running through its boundaries. The Rouge, also plays host to the Toronto Zoo, and the over 3000 animals, representing over 300 species.
The Rouge National Urban Park, featured in this design, is home to an abundance of wildlife - yes the rumours are true - including black bears.
In 1991, because of Bead Hill, the sole remaining intact 17th century Seneca site, the area was designated a National Historic Site of Canada.
First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Mississaugas, Seneca, Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat, inhabited the Rouge.
