Prince Edward County
Prince Edward County, or simply The County, boasts world-class wineries, beautiful beaches, and boutique accomodations. The list of small towns, villages, and hamlets in The County is virtually endless, each with their own unique charms.
First Nations, including the Wendat (Huron), Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), and Mississauga, dating back over 8,000 years, inhabited the area. Archiological evidence (satelite imagery and radar scanning) suggests that there were once over 500 first nations villages in PEC, with a substantial population.
Samuel de Champlain came through the area in 1615.
Later in 1783 the United Empire Loyalists arrived and by 1784 were starting to build their own communities..
